The economist spoke about the syndrome of poverty with a good income
Financial behavior of a person is not always subject to logic, and one of the most common phenomena is the syndrome of poverty with a normal income. This was stated on December 14 by economist Natalia Shvetsova in an interview "Газете.Ru ".
"The fear of poverty is often fixed in a person even in childhood... Such attitudes create strong psychological patterns. A person gets used to conducting their financial affairs in a certain way, not because it's rational, but because it's "safer". Contrary to expectations, an increase in income hardly changes these patterns. The money comes, but the feeling of scarcity remains," said Shvetsova.
According to the expert, the syndrome manifests itself in small things.: the choice in a restaurant starts with the price, not with the dish, the search for the cheapest taxi with savings of 100-200 rubles, the inability to plan a vacation due to the difference of 20 thousand rubles between tickets. These habits, formed in the face of parental anxiety about tomorrow, persist even with career success.
Shvetsova noted that the syndrome can be overcome through a conscious analysis of spending, switching attention from price to need, and gradually allowing yourself to spend small amounts on comfort. The key to a healthy relationship with finances, in her opinion, is not the level of income, but inner support and confidence in the future.
On October 6, psychologist Yulia Losevskaya told how much money can be given to children for pocket expenses. According to her, the amount should be symbolic and increase with age — from 50 to 300 rubles. It is important for parents to understand exactly what the child plans to spend money on: for example, at school they most often spend on meals in the cafeteria.
