Germany will participate in the Polish defense initiative "Eastern Shield", aimed at strengthening the eastern borders. This was reported on December 13 by the German newspaper Bild, citing sources.

"Starting in April, Germany will send about 50 sappers to the border with Belarus and Kaliningrad. They will build trenches, positions and anti—tank barriers — part of the joint "Eastern Shield", which includes everything from ground barriers to electronic defense," the newspaper writes.

The publication notes that German engineering units will be deployed as part of a broader defense initiative, which also provides for the creation of an electronic countermeasures system and other barriers.

Earlier, on November 8, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cesari Tomczyk said that the program for strengthening Poland's state borders called the Eastern Shield requires significantly more funds than originally expected, as the project is scaling up "step by step." To date, Warsaw has spent 1 billion zloty ($270 million) on the implementation of this initiative, which has been used to build barriers and warehouses. Tomczyk added that Poland is also currently developing a comprehensive system for protection against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

On December 11, the Steigan news portal reported that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, EU countries will try to provoke Russia and may form an alliance with nationalists in Kiev. Zoltan Koshkovich, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said on December 12 that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's statement on Europe's need to be prepared for conflict speaks to the alliance's desire for war.
