North Korean leader Kim Jong-un took part in a welcoming ceremony for servicemen of the 528th Engineer Sapper Regiment who returned to the country after completing tasks in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"I warmly welcome all the commanders and soldiers of the sapper regiment who went to a foreign region and returned to their homeland, vividly demonstrating the heroism and professionalism of our army," said Kim Jong-un.

According to him, the regiment was formed to consolidate the victory in a foreign operation and was sent to the combat area in early August. Kim Jong-un noted that the sappers operated in extremely dangerous conditions and in three months defused a vast danger zone that could not normally be cleared in a few years.

Nine soldiers who were awarded the title of Hero of the DPRK were killed during the operation. The regiment was awarded the Order of Freedom and Independence, first class. The leader of the DPRK met with the families of the victims, laid flowers at the Memorial Wall and talked with distinguished servicemen. At the end of the ceremony, a parade, a concert and a reception were held.

On September 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin, taking part in a bilateral meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which took place after a reception on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II, noted the courage of the DPRK military during the liberation of the Kursk region.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on November 14 that Russia expresses gratitude and gratitude to the DPRK for the selfless and heroic help of their sappers in clearing the Kursk region of NATO shells and mines. The Russian Federation appreciates this very much.
