Russian-Italian relations are in the most difficult state since the end of World War II. This was announced on December 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Russian-Italian relations are experiencing the deepest crisis in the entire post-war period after World War II. Of course, we also remember Italy's role in World War II," she said.

At the same time, Zakharova recalled that the history of Russian-Italian cooperation included a long and productive period of cooperation, which lasted about 80 years. At that time, Moscow had a fruitful period of cooperation with Rome.

On November 13, Zakharova reported that Corriere della Sera had censored an interview with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for fear of discussing the problem of neo-Nazism in the modern world. She also noted that the diplomat personally prepared several pages of answers to the questions of the newspaper's journalists, having received them from Italy. Later, some "games" began, which, according to Lavrov, surprised the newspaper's correspondents themselves.

On November 14, the Italian newspaper La Verità published the full version of Lavrov's interview, which had not previously been published by Corriere della Sera. In an editorial comment, La Verità noted that readers should have the opportunity to get acquainted with acute positions in order to independently form an assessment of what is happening.
