Ushakov called the latest versions of the US peace plan the result of a compromise.
The changes in the US peace plan for the Ukrainian settlement are the result of a compromise, including one agreed with Russia. This was announced on December 12 by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
"The latest options on the American side are the result of a compromise, including ours. <...> The ability to compromise on our part has been visible since the summer of this year," he said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper.
He clarified that at the current stage, the United States is consulting with representatives of Kiev and European states, while Russia is not yet involved in this work. When joining the discussion, Moscow intends to defend its positions harshly. In his opinion, the work on further discussion of the peace plan may be lengthy.
"We have the impression that this option, which is being proposed for discussion, will be worsened. Work has started with him, and then work will start with us again, and a lot of things will be, frankly, probably unsuitable for us," he said.
On December 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the points that Ukraine considered controversial were excluded from the settlement plan proposed by the United States, leaving 20 points out of 28. He believes that at the moment there is no compromise on the issue of territories.
On December 12, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would join Saturday's meeting with representatives of Europe and Ukraine if there was a real opportunity to conclude a peace agreement. He also expressed confidence that Zelensky does not support Washington's plan to resolve the conflict.
On the same day, Ushakov said that Russia had not yet seen the revised version of the US plan for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. According to the presidential aide, sooner or later the United States and Ukraine will have to discuss the details of the plan with Russia. He noted that the United States will send Russia the text of the plan for consideration after the weekend, which is scheduled for additional discussions with representatives of Ukraine and the European Union (EU).
