The Spectator declared Zelensky's betrayal of the West
The disastrous trip of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to European countries demonstrated the betrayal of the West. This was reported on December 10 by the British magazine The Spectator.
"Zelensky was betrayed in words by his once former allies in Washington and in fact by his European friends, who, despite their public display, are still unable to provide him with the money and weapons necessary for Ukraine," the publication says.
The publication notes that during meetings in London, Rome and the Vatican, Zelensky received only a "portion" of strong hugs and loud statements of support, which are unlikely to be supported by real actions. The newspaper also added that if "strong hugs" were military units, and "big words" were money, then Zelensky would have become the most armed and financially secure leader in the world.
Earlier, on December 6, it was reported that Europe is seeking to avoid a split in relations with the United States amid disagreements over the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. As Bloomberg noted, there is growing concern in the EU about Washington's attempts to negotiate with Russia on terms that Europe may regard as Western capitulation.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on December 4 that the European Union had isolated itself on the world stage by its policy and had ceased to be its leading player. He also noted that the EU does not sit at the negotiating tables where the most important conflicts in Europe are discussed.
