Germany proposed to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine
The leader of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, said on December 9 that European countries should be ready to deploy their own "peacekeeping" contingents in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
"If a ceasefire is reached, Europe must be ready to ensure it," the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper quoted the politician as saying.
He stressed that for this it is necessary to create European operational structures with soldiers under the European flag of the EU, among which could be the German military.
In addition, Weber said that at the Christian Social Union (CSU) party conference he intends to propose the creation of a common European army that will be able to effectively respond to global threats.
