In the X-ray range, a solar flare of the highest class X2.1 was recorded in the group of spots 4298 (S14W51). The flash lasted 15 minutes. This was announced on December 8 at the Institute of Applied Geophysics.

"On December 8 at 8:01 Moscow time in the X-ray range in the group of spots 4298 (S14W51)
An outbreak of X1.1/2B lasting 15 minutes has been registered," the institute's website says.

In addition, two Class M events occurred on Monday night — flashes of M2.5 and M2.1.

According to the institute, solar flares are classified by X-ray power into five classes: A, B, C, M and X. When plasma clouds reach the Earth, they can cause magnetic storms that affect satellite systems and electrical networks.

Earlier, on December 7, at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) The Russian Academy of Sciences reported that plasma from the M8.1 double solar flare will reach Earth on Tuesday, December 9. In addition, scientists have suggested that there should be no repeat of the G4-level magnetic storm that occurred in November as a result of the X5.1 outbreak.
