The President of Slovakia noted the futility of sending money for the military needs of Ukraine

On December 6, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, on the air of the Saturday Dialogues program, expressed the opinion that sending financial resources to Ukraine to meet its military needs would only lead to a prolongation of the conflict, in which Kiev would not ultimately win.

"My position is that it is necessary to accelerate and support the actions of the United States in order to sit down with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin at the same table as soon as possible and end the conflict," Pellegrini said. His interview was published by the STVR TV channel on its YouTube channel.

He noted that if European countries continue to send money for Kiev's military needs, this will only prolong the conflict, which is devastating for Ukraine.

He added that the idea proposed by the European Union (EU) of using frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine's military spending is fraught with many technical and legal problems.

"If we ever had to use such huge amounts of money, then let's use it for the post—war reconstruction of Ukraine," concluded the President of Slovakia.

The day before, Politico newspaper reported that Hungary had vetoed the European Commission's (EC) backup plan, which provided for the allocation of €90 billion to Ukraine through the issue of European bonds. It was clarified that this plan was developed as an alternative to the proposal for a "reparation loan" based on the confiscation of Russian assets.

Prior to that, on December 3, Bloomberg reported that the Belgian authorities rejected a new legal proposal from the European Union to use frozen Russian assets to secure a loan to Ukraine. It was clarified that Brussels fears legal consequences for the country, as most of the funds are deposited in the Euroclear depository, which is based in the capital.

Putin, in turn, said on November 27 that the confiscation of Russian assets located in the European Union would have negative consequences. In particular, the Russian government, on behalf of the head of state, is developing a package of retaliatory measures.
