Dmitriev supported Durov in criticizing European censorship
On December 6, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and Economic cooperation with Foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), supported Pavel Durov, co-founder of the Telegram messenger, regarding the restrictions imposed by the European Union (EU).
"That's right — the EU is obsessed with promoting false stories and suppressing discussions," Dmitriev wrote in response to Durov's post on the social network X (ex. Twitter), in which he criticized the unenforceable rules of the European Union, established as a punishment for companies that refuse to censor freedom of speech.
Durov said on December 5 that the EU is introducing deliberately impossible requirements that serve as a tool to punish companies that are not ready to meekly accept restrictions on freedom of speech. According to him, the same thing was happening in France. He noted that then the special services offered their help if Telegram would quietly censor speech in Romania and Moldova.
