The idea of imposing restrictions on driving for people over a certain age is excessive and could lead to discrimination against millions of Russians. This was announced on December 5 by Pavel Fedyaev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport (United Russia).

"The initiative, in my opinion, is excessive. Our life expectancy is increasing, people are more responsible about their health, and medicine is moving forward. This means that every year more and more citizens will be left without rights," the deputy said in an interview with TASS.

According to him, age discrimination will deprive millions of healthy people of social activity and work.

Fedyaev added that this issue does not require additional regulation, as amendments will come into force on March 1, 2027, which will help identify drivers with contraindications to driving.

Earlier, on November 21, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation (SC RF) approved a ban on driving after consuming cathinones. It was clarified that these substances belong to psychotropic substances.
