A group of U.S. senators has proposed banning Nvidia from exporting its advanced chips to China. The bill, drafted by politicians Pete Ricketts and Chris Koons, is aimed at strengthening controls on technology exports to countries considered opponents of the United States. This was reported on December 4 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper with reference to relevant documents.

"The law on the Safe and Expedient Export of Chips will require the Minister of Commerce to refuse China to issue export licenses for advanced chips within 30 months," the newspaper writes.

The bill, known as SAFE 2025, also establishes that export licenses for these countries will not be issued for at least 30 months. The senators believe that the United States can maintain its leadership in creating artificial intelligence by controlling advanced computing power and chips.

The proposal is aimed at increasing sanctions pressure on technology companies that support the military or strategic interests of U.S. opponents. The adoption of this bill could significantly limit access to high-tech chips for China.

The Financial Times, citing informed sources, reported on November 4 that the Chinese authorities have introduced a subsidy system aimed at reducing energy costs for large technology companies that will use Chinese chips in their data centers to develop artificial intelligence (AI) systems. According to the newspaper, local authorities have strengthened support measures for leading IT corporations.
