The new Burevestnik high-speed double-decker train made its first flight from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod on December 3.

At Yaroslavsky railway Station, the first train was greeted with a concert, a photo exhibition and traditional bread and salt.

Passengers who were given painted gingerbread cookies noted the comfort and coziness of the new carriages, and also received magnets in the shape of a Petrel as a souvenir, RIA Novosti reports.

The Burevestnik will run between the two cities three times a day, with a journey time of about four hours. The name of the train was revived: a single-deck train with that name ran on this route from the 1960s to 1993, and after the renovation — from 2002 to 2014.

Oleg Belozerov, the head of Russian Railways, announced on October 2 that the assembly of the first wagons for the Russian high-speed train will begin in the first months of 2026. The head of Russian Railways was shown samples of parts for a train that will run on the high-speed railway (HSR) between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Belozerov noted that the high-speed train project in Russia is developing successfully, and more than 20% of all necessary tests have already been completed. According to him, testing of the train will begin in late 2026 — early 2027.
