- Zakharova called the desire of the West to steal assets of other countries a mutual guarantee.
On December 3, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on a statement by Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever, calling plans to confiscate frozen Russian assets a "mutual guarantee" of Western countries.
Earlier in the day, de Wever, commenting on the EU's plans to seize frozen assets of the Russian Federation, said that no one believes in Russia's defeat in the conflict in Ukraine, such an opinion is only an illusion. He also drew attention to Moscow's warning about the consequences of the confiscation of sovereign assets and stressed that only Germany agreed to share the risks with Belgium.
"That's right. Except for one thing — this has never been done before in Belgium (they did not steal sovereign assets. — Ed.). But they did it in Britain. That's what Britain wants everyone else to do. Mutual responsibility," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
On the same day, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost said that the Belgian authorities consider the confiscation of frozen Russian assets to be the worst possible option for financing Ukraine. According to him, Belgium continues to insist on using a natural source of financing, offering the EU to borrow the necessary amount on the markets.
