6.5 tons of sturgeon were seized from illegal traffic in Astrakhan region
Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the FSB, detained the suspect and seized 6.5 tons of sturgeon fish from illegal trafficking in the Astrakhan region. This was announced on December 3 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
"During the operational search activities, the police stopped a truck on the highway. During the inspection, the staff found 1,805 carcasses of sturgeon fish with a total weight of 6.5 tons hidden under packages of onions," she said.
It is noted that the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Astrakhan linear department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Transport and Traffic Police together with the regional FSB. A criminal case has been opened under the article on the illegal extraction and trafficking of aquatic biological resources belonging to species listed in the Red Book.
Measures are currently being taken to identify all the accomplices and circumstances of the incident.
On November 8, police officers seized more than 90 kg of black caviar from illicit trafficking in the Khabarovsk Territory. It was clarified that the police stopped the car to check the driver's documents. During the inspection of the vehicle, 186 plastic containers with black caviar were found, the total weight of which was 93 kg.
