Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the detention of former head of the European Diplomacy and rector of the College of Europe Federica Mogherini, saying that the EU often turns a blind eye to its internal problems, while actively teaching other countries.

"In the EU, millions of euros flow through corrupt pipes to Kiev every day and from there go into private pockets. All this has been going on for years and in full view of everyone. <...> At the same time, they prefer not to notice their problems, but constantly teach everyone else," she told RIA Novosti.

She stressed that the EU uses international problems as an opportunity to benefit, mentioning the COVID-19 pandemic and the crisis around Ukraine.
