On November 28, the Turkish Maritime Administration reported that the Gambian-flagged tanker Virat was attacked in the Black Sea 56 km off the coast of Turkey. It was noted that the crew members were not injured. Later, the Turkish General Directorate of Maritime Affairs informed Izvestia that the Virat tanker had suffered another damage.

At the same time, a fire broke out on the tanker Kairos in the Black Sea off the coast of Turkey. The incident occurred at a distance of 45 km from the Turkish coast. On December 1, The Guardian reported that Ukraine had admitted its involvement in attacks on tankers in the Black Sea. As the newspaper noted, as a result of a direct hit, the vessels received critical damage.

Later, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the inadmissibility of creating threats to maritime safety in the country's economic zone. He also noted that the attacks on merchant ships indicate an aggravation of the situation. It was clarified that the state would send "necessary warnings" to all parties due to such situations.

In turn, on November 30, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Kiev was trying to disrupt the peace process with terrorist attacks in the Black Sea.
