The 1980 Olympic speed skating champion Natalia Petruseva died at the age of 71. This was announced on November 29 by the press service of the Russian Skating Union (TFR).

"Her legacy is an example of courage, willpower and dedication," the Union's Telegram channel says.

Natalia Petruseva was born on September 2, 1955 in Pavlovsky Posad. In 1980, she won a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid at a distance of 1,000 m, as well as a bronze at a distance of 500 m. In addition, in 1984, the athlete won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, at distances of 1,000 m. m and 1.5 thousand m .
