A system of voluntary military service will be introduced in France, starting in the summer of 2026. This was announced on November 27 by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"The new national service will be introduced gradually starting next summer. <...> We cannot return to the time of conscription, but we need mobilization," BFMTV quoted him as saying.
