Nikita Simonyan, the top scorer of Spartak Moscow, the 1956 Olympic champion in the USSR national football team, was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow. This was reported on November 27 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

Earlier that day, a farewell ceremony for the athlete was held at the Spartak stadium. Simonyan's photo was highlighted on the stadium's main scoreboard. Russian President Vladimir Putin also sent a wreath to the farewell ceremony for the ex-Spartak striker.

Simonyan died on November 23 at the age of 99. It was noted that the man felt unwell on November 20, after which he was hospitalized.

Putin called Simonyan a football legend and an idol for fans. He also expressed his condolences to the relatives and the family of the football player.
