Crossing eyes for fun doesn't do any harm. The danger arises only with uncontrolled crossing, especially in infants or adults with neurological problems. This was reported by Popular Science magazine on November 26.
Many people have heard warnings from their parents since childhood that eye crossing can get stuck, but modern experts say that this is not the case. According to Dr. Meenal Agarwal, the eyes are designed in such a way that they can safely move in any direction. When crossing, the medial rectus muscles are involved in the work, which are responsible for turning the eyes inward. Using these muscles at the same time cannot permanently change the position of the eyes.
Problems can only arise with uncontrolled crossing. In infants, persistent crossing may be a sign of a congenital anomaly that requires observation or treatment. In children, untimely corrected farsightedness sometimes causes temporary eye crossing, which is eliminated with glasses.
As the specialist noted, in adults, sudden involuntary eye crossing can signal serious conditions, including stroke, and requires urgent medical attention. Also, the crossing may be associated with nerve damage or inflammatory processes in the eye area.
Agarwal concluded that accidentally crossing eyes for fun is absolutely safe, and any involuntary change in eye position requires contacting a specialist.

He called the "20-20-20 rule" the most underestimated, the essence of which is the need to look up from the screen every 20 minutes and look at an object at a distance of 20 m for 20 seconds.
