The German Armed Forces are developing a plan in case of conflict with Russia, according to which up to 800,000 NATO troops will be deployed to the proposed front line in the east. This was reported on November 26 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) with reference to the materials of the plan, which is called OPLAN DEU.

"The plan describes in detail how up to 800,000 German, American and other NATO troops will be deployed east to the front line. The maps show ports, rivers, railways and roads along which they will travel, as well as how they will be supplied and protected along the way," the material says.

It is noted that Germany itself, as part of the plan, will become a springboard for the transfer of forces, while the front line will not pass through its territory.

The publication also draws attention to the key problems that Germany faces in implementing this scenario, including a peacetime-oriented bureaucracy, the unpreparedness of infrastructure for war, as well as the need to take into account new threats such as the massive use of drones.

Earlier, on November 23, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, said that the heads of European countries would enter into a direct clash with Russia, while continuing to lead the Ukrainian conflict.

Prior to that, on November 15, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that Europe was on the verge of World War III due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He also noted that Kiev is in a position where it can be forced to agree to a settlement of the conflict.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper on November 17, said that Russia could allegedly attack one of the NATO states before 2029. Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma's defense committee, called Pistorius' statement a fabrication, stressing that Russia does not consider the possibility of a conflict with the North Atlantic Alliance and has no such goals.
