In Poland, after repairs, the only submarine broke down again
The only submarine of the Polish Navy, ORP Orzeł, has been disabled while at sea and will not be able to participate in the Navy Day celebrations. This was announced on November 26 by the Interia portal.
"During the surfacing, a malfunction occurred, which made it impossible to continue the hike. The crew immediately returned to port," the newspaper quoted Navy Captain Damian Przybysz as saying.
According to the portal, ORP Orzeł is a Soviet submarine of project 877 "Halibut", adopted in 1986. For almost 40 years of service, the ship has been repaired several times, most recently from 2021 to 2024. The current breakdown is already known to specialists and should have been fixed earlier at the PGZ shipyard in Gdynia. The volume and cost of the necessary repairs are currently being assessed.
On November 14, Reuters reported that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was trying to persuade Poland to sign a contract for the purchase of Swedish-made submarines, from which British companies would benefit. One of the representatives of the British government said that such export deals for the supply of military equipment bring Britain "billions of pounds."
