Russia will develop uniform criteria for the whole country, according to which the status of a large family will be determined. The corresponding instruction to the government was given by President Vladimir Putin. The list of instructions of the head of state is published on the Kremlin's website.

"The Government of the Russian Federation should consider <...> defining common approaches to establishing the status of a large family," the publication says.

In addition, the Russian leader instructed to evaluate the criteria for issuing "a certificate confirming the status of a large family at the place of residence of one of the parents" in such circumstances.

The deadline for executing the order is March 1, 2026. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has been appointed responsible.

Earlier, on November 21, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov said that the number of large families in Russia has increased by more than 8% since the beginning of this year. According to him, if earlier there were 8.9 million children in such families, then by the end of ten months of 2025 their number increased to 9.2 million, which amounted to an increase of almost 300 thousand.
