The ashes of ballerina Maya Plisetskaya and composer Rodion Shchedrin were scattered over the Oka River. Ballet dancer, director and producer Andris Liepa announced this on November 25.
"Maya and Rodion dreamed that their ashes would be scattered over Russia. And so they did. They combined their ashes and scattered them over the Oka," he said in an interview with TASS.
At the same time, the artist did not specify exactly when the ashes of the artists were scattered.
On November 22, the executor of Plisetskaya and Shchedrin, Vladimir Titorenko, announced that he did not yet know how he would fulfill the last will of the spouses. He also recalled that it was to ensure that the ashes of the artists were united and scattered over Russia.
Plisetskaya died in 2015, Shchedrin died on August 29, 2025. Russian leader Vladimir Putin called the composer's death a heavy, irreparable loss for Russian and world culture. He also expressed his condolences to the composer's family and friends. The farewell to Shchedrin took place in the circle of his relatives.
