- The Foreign Ministry called the preferred settlement of the conflict in Ukraine by diplomacy
A diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine remains the most preferable option for Russia. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the YouTube channel of the Franco-Russian Dialogue Association.
"We remain in a position where, of course, a diplomatic settlement is preferable," he said. The text of the interview is published on the agency's website.
The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that the meeting of the Presidents of the United States and Russia, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, in Anchorage was preceded by the visit of the special envoy of the President of the United States, Stephen Witkoff, to Moscow with specific settlement parameters. According to Lavrov, these proposals took into account Russian approaches, including the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
The minister identified two key causes of the crisis: the West's attempt to include Ukraine in NATO and "the legislatively fixed course of the Kiev Nazi regime to exterminate all Russians." Lavrov also criticized the position of European countries, noting that they "put their conviction on the line that they could inflict a strategic defeat on Russia with the hands of the Nazi regime in Kiev."
Speaking about US policy, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that the course towards the dictate of his will was maintained, although without an "ideological shell." He also praised the Trump administration's peacekeeping initiatives, but noted that a long-term settlement requires "painstaking, patient and non-fussy initiatives."
