The case of poisoning 350 people with salad from the "Kitchen in the area" was sent to court

The case of a massive botulism disease caused by Lobio salad from the Kitchen on the District restaurant in Moscow has been brought to court. This was announced on November 25 by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

"The indictment in the criminal case against Vladimir Shin, Anton Lozin, Elena Mashkova and Karim Normatov has been approved. They are charged under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Production and sale of food products that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two persons by negligence"). He is also charged with Article 322.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal registration of foreign citizens")," the agency's website says.

It is specified that two people died as a result of poisoning, 298 people were hospitalized in serious condition, and 52 people escaped serious consequences thanks to timely medical care.

So, in May-June 2024, the head of the Savon-K Shin company purchased beans and instructed a worker without appropriate knowledge to cook and pack them in a vacuum. Due to violations of sanitary standards, botulinum toxin was formed in the products.

These beans were later bought by the Lokalkitchen company. As established by the investigation, CEO Lozin and head of the quality department Mashkova, deciding to save money, did not carry out the necessary checks. A Lobio salad was made from the beans, which was sold through the "Kitchen in the area" and "Scooter".

In addition, investigators claim that Shin illegally registered 31 foreign employees at his mother's address. The victims are demanding compensation in the amount of more than 70 million rubles, part of the damage has already been paid by Lokalkitchen.
