- Poland announced the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to the Foreign Ministry due to the publication of the Yad Vashem Museum
Israeli Ambassador Yaakov Finkelstein was summoned to the Polish Foreign Ministry because of the publication of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial complex about armbands that Jews were forced to wear as a distinctive sign. This was reported on November 24 by the newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
"Poland was the first country where Jews were forced to wear a distinctive sign in order to isolate themselves from the surrounding population," the complex's publication says.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the post misleads the public and distorts historical facts.
"Since the misleading post has not been corrected, I decided to summon the Israeli ambassador to the Foreign Ministry," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
In August, by order of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Polish Ambassador to Israel Maciej Hunya was summoned for an official demarche after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's remarks about the famine and death of children in the Gaza Strip. Tusk on the social network X (ex. Twitter) wrote that Poland will always be on the side of Israel, but does not support the actions of the Israeli government, which lead to "hunger and deaths of mothers and children." The Israeli Foreign Ministry added that Poland should refrain from using language that distorts history and "insults the memory of the victims of the Holocaust."
