Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on November 23 that during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, November 24, he intends to raise the issue of restoring agreements on the operation of the grain corridor.

"We wanted the grain corridor to reach both Europe and Africa. Unfortunately, we have achieved only limited success. Tomorrow, at the talks, I will ask Mr. Putin about this again," he told TASS, taking part in a press conference in the Republic of South Africa (RSA), where the G20 summit is taking place.

The Turkish leader stressed that he considers the issue of resuming the grain initiative to be key to strengthening global food security. Erdogan expressed the hope that this process would be launched and said that it would happen "for good."

The termination of the memorandum of the Russian Federation and the United Nations (UN) on the grain deal became known on May 29 of this year. Later, on July 17, the President of the Russian Federation clarified that the conditions of the so-called Black Sea Initiative aimed at exporting food had not been met by Europe. Putin clarified that instead of sending grain to the countries of the South, European states appropriated it for themselves.

The deputy official representative of the UN Secretary General, Farhan Haq, told Izvestia on November 12 that his organization was ready to assist in the resumption of the Black Sea deal.
