Rosorbnadzor reported about 19% of migrant children enrolled in Russian schools
Only 19 percent of migrant children were able to enroll in Russian schools. This was announced on November 22 by the head of Rosobrnadzor, Anzor Muzaev.
"After two requirements — to present a package of documents and knowledge of the Russian language — about 19% of children were able to enroll in schools. That is, their documents are normal and they passed the exam," Muzaev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Rosobrnadzor also asked the large Russian regions with the largest number of applications from foreign citizens to tell about their experiences writing tests and enrolling migrants in schools. Muzaev noted that the agency is starting a study of the current situation in order to understand how the process has changed for teachers and children.
According to the head of Rosobrnadzor, more than 80% of migrant children could not enroll in schools due to ignorance of the Russian language at the proper level and mistakes in paperwork. Testing of migrant children for school enrollment was introduced on April 1, 2023.
On November 11, IA Regnum reported that an eight-year-old girl, Olya, who came to Russia from Latvia with her parents, was not enrolled in school due to insufficient knowledge of the language. According to the girl's mother, Victoria, the family decided to move to Russia after the conflict at the Riga school, where the Russian-speaking first-grader basically communicated only in Latvian.
