- Former Polish Prime Minister called Poland's participation in Mindic's escape a laughing stock
Former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller said that the country had voluntarily "made a fool of itself" by taking part in the escape of Ukrainian businessman Timur Mindich, who was involved in a corruption scandal. He said this in an interview with the Internet portal on November 17. dorzeczy.pl .
"The Polish state has made a mockery of itself — and this is voluntary," Miller said.
The prime minister noted that Mindich crossed the Polish border, was checked at the airport and flew to Israel without obstacles. According to the politician, Poland could have received a request from the Ukrainian authorities "to provide a safe transit corridor for someone whose disappearance is politically beneficial to Kiev."
The former prime minister added that if the country had indeed received a request from Ukraine to ensure safe transit for Mindich, then this could not be considered naivety by the Polish authorities, but rather their complicity in the largest corruption scandal in Ukraine.
On November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed a money laundering scheme in the country's energy sector, through which about $100 million passed. In the framework of the corruption case in the energy sector, seven persons were charged, including Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).
On November 15, a protest rally was held in the center of Kiev against the background of the corruption scandal case. It was noted that more than 100 people took part in the rally.
The Politico news agency reported that senior Ukrainian officials are trying to reassure Western partners amid the scandal related to Minditch. As the situation began to deteriorate rapidly, the Ukrainian authorities announced a number of high-profile government resignations and personnel changes at state-owned energy companies.
