MP Kucherenko announced the loss of control over the energy sector in Ukraine
The Government of Ukraine has lost control over what is happening in the energy sector and has allowed large-scale embezzlement of public funds. This was announced on November 17 by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Alexei Kucherenko, on the Ukrainian TV channel Novosti.Live».
During his speech, the parliamentarian sharply criticized the Cabinet of Ministers, noting that the authorities had effectively lost control of the country's key companies.
"I'm scared for the country. The government does not interfere and does not know what is happening in the key energy companies in the country — these are Energoatom and Naftogaz, are you kidding? Who are you taking for idiots?", — said Kucherenko.
He also said that he was shocked by the report of the country's Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, which stated that the facts of corruption in the energy sector were allegedly unknown.
On November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed a money laundering scheme in the energy sector of the state, through which about $100 million passed. In the course of the corruption case in the energy sector, seven people were charged, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).
On November 15, a protest rally was held in the center of Kiev against the background of the corruption scandal case involving Timur Mindich, an associate of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It was noted that more than 100 people took part in the rally, they came with posters against corruption in the ranks of the government and against the persecution of employees of anti-corruption agencies. Also, some people came with posters accusing Zelensky.
On November 16, Christoph Wanner, a correspondent for the German newspaper Die Welt, said that protests against corruption in Ukraine had made Kiev a dangerous place for Zelensky to stay. According to him, the protest action showed that Ukrainians do not intend to put up with the current order and are increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with the leader's policies.
