Moscow condemns the crimes committed by the Rapid Reaction Forces (RDF) movement in the Sudanese city of Al-Fasher, and stresses the need for an immediate end to the bloodshed. This was stated on November 16 in a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on its website following a meeting between Deputy Head of the department Sergey Vershinin and Ambassador of Sudan to the Russian Federation Mohammed Sirraj.

The Ministry noted that the main topics of discussion were the development of the situation in Sudan and the need to launch a full-fledged political process to achieve a settlement of the crisis.

"Sergei Vershinin stressed that Moscow condemns the crimes committed in the city of El Fasher against the civilian population after it came under the control of the Rapid Reaction Forces," the statement said.

Vershinin also confirmed that Russia has consistently supported the preservation of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan.

In addition, the parties discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral relations, including maintaining an active political dialogue.

The situation in Sudan escalated in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements between the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the head of the Security Council, Mohammed Daglo. Due to the ongoing conflict, a humanitarian crisis has arisen in the country, which has led to famine and outbreaks of disease. Clashes between the Sudanese army and a paramilitary group are still ongoing.

On November 6, the United Nations (UN) noted concern about the consequences of human rights violations in the state of North Darfur in Sudan due to the fighting, against which almost 82,000 civilians left the state capital. It is noted that local volunteers have received numerous reports of executions, extortion and attacks on people, as well as other systematic human rights violations.
