- Ushakov: Russia and the United States are actively talking about a settlement in Ukraine
Russia and the United States maintain active contacts on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on November 16 by Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov in an interview with VGTRK correspondent Pavel Zarubin.
"We [with the United States] are actively talking about a Ukrainian settlement based on the understandings that were reached in Anchorage. We believe that this is a really good way to achieve a peaceful settlement," Ushakov said, his message posted on Zarubin's Telegram channel.
Ushakov stressed that Washington had not given any signals about the revision of the agreements reached in Anchorage. According to him, these agreements remain the foundation for further discussion of ways to resolve the conflict.
Earlier, on November 14, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the Ukrainian authorities were negotiating in order to gain time for themselves and save themselves in certain positions. She also noted that, instead of responding to Moscow's proposals, Kiev blamed the Russian side, hoping for tougher anti-Russian sanctions.
Earlier, on November 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russian media that the Russian Federation had handed over to its American colleagues a memorandum in the non-paper format before a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump. According to the minister, the purpose of the document was to recall the agreements reached at the Anchorage summit.
