Germany called a possible deal with the United States on Nord Stream 2 madness
The possible transfer of the infrastructure of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to American investor Stephen Lynch is a sign of the irrational policy of the German authorities. This opinion was expressed on November 15 by a member of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, a member of the Committee on Economics and Energy Steffen Cotre.
The politician arrived in Sochi to participate in the BRICS—Europe international Symposium, organized by the United Russia Party and the Other Ukraine International Movement with the support of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
When asked about Lynch's proposal to purchase the Nord Stream 2 project, Cotre noted that despite official statements about the cessation of imports of Russian energy resources, Germany actually continues to receive them, but through intermediaries and at an inflated price.
"It's completely insane. This is a sign of an irrational policy. That's how Europe, and Germany in particular, is being plundered, simply because of the obsession to stop cooperation with Russia," the deputy said in an interview with RBC.
At the same time, Cotre stressed that he did not know whether real negotiations were underway between Berlin and American structures.
Commenting on the investigation into the bombing of Nord Streams in September 2022, the parliamentarian noted that the German ruling coalition is not interested in clarifying the circumstances of the incident, since the cessation of Russian gas supplies meets its political goals.
"Germany doesn't care at all what happens to this pipeline. <...> I can't understand it. After all, this is a terrorist act sponsored by other states against the infrastructure. This is actually the largest attack on infrastructure since the end of World War II," he said.
Earlier, on September 4, the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, said that concluding a direct agreement between Russia and Germany on the Nord Stream gas pipeline would be more in the interests of Germany than Russia. The politician also said that American investor Stephen Lynch was interested in buying the pipeline. And if the deal had taken place, Germany would have been forced to buy Russian gas at very inflated prices.
