- The Ministry of Internal Affairs suppressed the activities of scammers who supplied Telegram channel accounts
Law enforcement officers stopped the activities of two Telegram channels that were engaged in providing fake accounts in messengers to fraudsters to deceive citizens. This was announced on November 14 by the press service of the Department for the Organization of combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"The activities of two Telegram channels have been suppressed, which allowed fraudsters to use more than 1,000 rented accounts in messengers every day to deceive Russian citizens," the agency's Telegram channel says.
According to the Interior Ministry, operatives detained channel administrators between the ages of 16 and 18. Criminal cases were initiated against teenagers under Part 1 of Article 274.5 of the Criminal Code (CC) of the Russian Federation ("Organization of activities for transmitting information necessary for registration and (or) authorization of an Internet user in order to gain access to the functionality of an information resource").
Interior Ministry officers from the Astrakhan region and the Luhansk People's Republic participated in the detention operation.
On November 9, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that fraudsters most often place fake ads related to financial services, employment, and housing and communal services, as well as distribute flyers with QR codes. In addition, job and part-time job advertisements are included in the list of common schemes.
