After the introduction of a rating of driving schools based on data on accidents involving their graduates, the quality of driver training will begin to grow. Alexey Ivanov, the owner of the Alliance Trucks commercial vehicle dealership network, told Izvestia on November 14.

"Driving schools will start investing in updating curricula, improving instructors' skills, and modern equipment — not out of love for art, but because their business will depend on it. At the same time, it is important to work on improving the road infrastructure and tightening traffic control, because road safety is a complex task," the expert said.

He noted that the rating, which will take into account the accident rate of graduates within five years after obtaining their license, is able to form a healthy competition between more than 7.5 thousand driving schools. According to Ivanov, the publication of the data will allow the market to naturally weed out players who do not provide an adequate level of training.

"Of course, driving schools are afraid that they will be evaluated for something that is not completely dependent on them — a driver may have an accident years later for various reasons. This is a fair point, and it is important that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, when developing criteria, takes into account not only the dry statistics of accidents, but also the proportion of those who successfully passed the exam the first time, the quality of the school's material and technical base, and the qualifications of instructors. Yes, the competition will increase, but is that a bad thing?" he said.

Increased competition is inevitable, but it will be an incentive for the industry to develop. The auto expert drew attention to the fact that international experience confirms the effectiveness of transparency: in the UK, a system for evaluating instructors is used, in the Netherlands statistics on schools are published, and despite individual attempts at manipulation, the trend remains positive.

On the same day, it was reported that the State Duma adopted a law on the rating of driving schools. Russians will be able to learn more about driving schools and leave feedback on their training. When forming the rating, the results of the students' exams will be taken into account, as well as the emergency situations in which they find themselves.
