The US Coast Guard announced the alleged discovery of a Russian ship near Hawaii
The US Coast Guard has discovered a Russian military vessel near the territorial waters of the Hawaiian Islands. This was announced on November 13 on the agency's website.
"The Coast Guard discovered and monitored a Russian military vessel operating near the territorial waters of the United States," the press release said.
According to the Coast Guard, the Russian reconnaissance ship Karelia of the Cherry class was spotted on October 29 about 15 nautical miles (27 km) south of the island of Oahu. An HC-130 Hercules aircraft from the Barbers Point Air Station and a William Hart cutter were involved in monitoring the vessel.
The ministry stressed that all actions were carried out in accordance with international law and were safe and professional. The Russian ship operated within the limits permitted by international law outside the 12-mile zone of territorial waters.
On November 8, the NEKSU vessel with Russian citizens, which had previously been drifting off the coast of Japan, was taken in tow by a patrol ship of the Japan Maritime Safety Administration. According to the Japanese side, the crew is in good condition and is not in any danger.
