The political scientist appreciated the scandal with the "Mindich tapes"
In Ukraine, the corruption scandal that has broken out in the energy sector may undermine the stability of the country's political system. This was stated to Izvestia by Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
"The investigation mentions key officials and major businessmen close to President Zelensky. There is a feeling that if the tangle is further unraveled, then the entire leadership of the country will be involved in corruption. It will be interesting to see further developments. If the defendants are formally charged, and then court sentences will follow, then this can undermine the entire political system of the country," he believes.
On November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced the exposure of a corruption scheme in Ukrainian energy companies. At the same time, the media reported on searches of Zelensky's associate Timur Mindich and former Energy Minister German Galushchenko.
On November 11, NABU charged seven individuals in the case of corruption in the energy sector. Five people were detained in connection with the incident, and seven people have the status of suspects. The criminal group illegally benefited from the contractors of Energoatom — 10-15% of the value of the contracts. The funds were legalized through a back office in the center of Kiev. About $100 million passed through it.
On November 12, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko announced the dismissal of Galushchenko. This decision was made at an extraordinary government meeting in connection with the investigation of corruption schemes related to businessman Timur Mindich.
