Turkey is coordinating the search in the area of the C-130 military transport plane crash in Georgia. This was announced on November 11 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the NTV channel.
"Today we learned with deep sorrow that a C-130 military aircraft flying from Azerbaijan to our country crashed on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan. We continue to work on the registration of the wreckage of the aircraft in coordination with the state authorities of the countries," the Turkish leader said.
He did not specify the number of victims of the disaster. According to the TV channel, Turkish, Georgian and Azerbaijani servicemen could have been on board, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
The plane crash in Georgia became known earlier in the day. At that time, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported casualties. The number of injured or dead was not announced.
Later it became known that the military aircraft had disappeared from radar without sending a distress signal. According to preliminary data, the plane took off from the Azerbaijani city of Ganja.
The Turkish Defense Ministry said there were 20 military personnel on board the crashed plane. Search and rescue operations are continuing at the scene.
