Honored Journalist of Russia Alexander Nechaev died in Moscow at the age of 70 after a long illness. This was reported on November 11 by the TASS news agency.

Nechaev started working at TASS in 1978, joining the Editorial Board of Information for Foreign Tourists of the Main Editorial Board of Information for Abroad (GRIDZ). In 1991, he became the head of the English editorial board of GRIDZ, and in 1994 he became the first deputy editor-in-chief. During the events of October 1993, Nechaev showed exceptional courage by refusing to comply with the demands of the armed supporters of the Supreme Soviet, who seized the TASS building and tried to force him to transmit a message about the change of power in Russia.

In 1994, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the TASS World Service Agency, which translated and distributed news in foreign languages. At the height of the war in Yugoslavia, Nechaev traveled to Kosovo and Belgrade twice to cover local events.

In 2012, Nechaev was sent to the Republic of South Africa, where he headed the TASS representative office in Pretoria. Over the five years of his work in South Africa, he has strengthened the agency's information position in Africa. After that, he continued to work in the Editorial Office of information for foreign subscribers of TASS and continued to produce materials on the development of Russian-African relations.

In 2015, for his honest coverage of world events, Nechaev was included in Ukraine's 500-person sanctions list. In recent years, he has been actively working on the news of the TASS military tape in English, including materials on the actions of the Russian armed forces in their zone, military developments and international cooperation.
