Syria will reopen its embassy in Washington to strengthen security and counterterrorism cooperation. This was reported on November 11 by NBC television, citing a senior White House official.

"The United States will allow Syria to reopen its embassy in Washington for further counterterrorism, security and economic coordination," the source said.

The decision was made against the background of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Syrian transitional leader Ahmed al-Sharaa on the eve. The official added that the republic will become the 90th member of the international coalition against ISIS (the Islamic State, recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation, banned activities), cooperating with the United States in eliminating the remnants of the terrorist group and stopping the flow of foreign fighters.

The day before, it was reported that al-Sharaa met with Trump at the White House to strengthen Syrian-American relations. According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, as a result of negotiations at the White House, the parties agreed to continue implementing the agreement between the Kurds and the Syrian government, which was signed on March 10 and provides for the inclusion of Kurdish fighters in the armed forces of the republic.
