Some retinal diseases cannot be detected without special equipment, but they are often accompanied by characteristic symptoms. On November 9, Igor Aznauryan, ophthalmologist, ophthalmic surgeon, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, founder and head of the Association of Children's Eye Clinics "Clear Gaze", pointed out the alarming signs that require attention.

According to the expert, the retina is a kind of "inner screen" onto which an image is projected, which is subsequently transmitted along the optic nerve to the brain. During the examination, an ophthalmologist can identify not only ophthalmological, but also systemic disorders, such as the first signs of hypertension or diabetes mellitus.

Among the symptoms that should be noted, Aznauryan mentioned the sudden appearance of a large number of "flies" or "cobwebs" in front of the eyes, especially if they are accompanied by flashes of light.

"This is how retinal rupture manifests itself — a condition requiring urgent care, as it can lead to its detachment," he stressed in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

It is clarified that another dangerous sign is the feeling of a "veil" in the field of vision or distortion of straight lines.

"If a dark veil or veil creeps in from the side, top or bottom of the visual field, this is a symptom of retinal detachment. Another worrying sign is when straight lines (such as window frames or tiles) appear wavy and the image appears blurred. This may be a symptom of damage to the central area of the retina — age—related macular degeneration (AMD) or retinal vascular occlusion," the doctor explained.

According to him, the reason for an urgent visit to an ophthalmologist is also a sudden blurred vision in one eye, which may indicate a blockage of retinal vessels or hemorrhage.

Separately, the expert noted the importance of preventive examinations for children who are not always able to complain of vision problems. In pediatric ophthalmology, retinal examination helps to identify early manifestations of hereditary and systemic diseases.

"If any of these symptoms appear, you should immediately contact a specialized eye clinic — do not expect the problem to disappear by itself. Have regular checkups. Even in the absence of complaints, a scheduled visit to an ophthalmologist with an examination of the fundus is the best preventive measure. If we are talking about a child, then the examination and treatment should be carried out in a specialized clinic. Increased attention to vision should be shown in the presence of diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, high degree of myopia, as well as people over 50 years of age," concluded Aznauryan.

On October 20, SM-Clinic ophthalmologist Svetlana Mirgorodskaya named the main causes of the feeling of sand in the eyes. It was clarified that these symptoms are associated with inflammation or irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye, most often due to dry eye syndrome.
