Nebenzia called Trump's statement about nuclear tests serious
Russia should be ready if the United States decides to resume nuclear testing. This was announced on November 8 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
"The President [of the United States Donald] In response to our tests of new cruise missiles and nuclear-powered underwater weapons, Trump announced that the United States was thinking about resuming nuclear testing. This is quite a serious statement. What it will result in is still unknown," Nebenzia said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting of the Russian Security Council, stressed the importance of taking such threats seriously.
"If this happens, we must be prepared for such a development," Nebenzia added.
On October 29, Trump issued a statement instructing the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons "on an equal basis." Chris Wright, the head of the US Department of Energy, said that Washington's nuclear tests will be subcritical — they will take place without nuclear explosions.
Later, on November 6, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that there had been no official US reaction to Putin's statements on nuclear tests. He also accused the Western media of distorting the words of the Russian leader.
