Karapetyan's nephew spoke about the condition of his uncle's release
Businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who was arrested in Armenia, does not intend to stop supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), even if this could lead to his release and the return of business. This was stated on November 7 in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson by the coordinator of the Mer Dzev movement, the nephew of the entrepreneur, Narek Karapetyan.
According to him, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is waging a campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is causing discontent among the majority of the country's citizens. Karapetyan stated that Pashinyan's actions against the church are extremely unpopular, 90% of the population are against it.
He also stressed that Samvel Karapetyan deliberately refused to make concessions to the authorities in order to preserve his faith.
"He could live in peace, go about his business, but he doesn't do it for the sake of his religion. Because religion and faith matter. You know, the first Christians in the first century fought for their faith, and Samvel Karapetyan is facing the same thing now," Karapetyan added.
Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. He was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia, after which he was arrested for two months.
On July 3, the Armenian parliament adopted in the final reading laws allowing the nationalization of the company "Electric Networks of Armenia", which belongs to the detained Karapetyan. The opposition expressed its disagreement, which considers the process illegal.
On July 15, the opposition political parties of the Armenian parliament appealed to the Constitutional Court (CC) demanding that the law on the nationalization of Karapetyan's Electric Grids be declared unconstitutional.
