Ukraine and Sweden signed a memorandum on the production of Gripen fighter jets

Ukraine and Sweden have signed a memorandum on the launch of joint production of Gripen fighter jets on Ukrainian territory. This was announced at a briefing on November 7 by the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Denis Shmygal.

"Yesterday, a corresponding memorandum was signed between one of the Ukrainian companies and SAAB about the upcoming localization of Gripen in Ukraine," the publication quoted him as saying.

Shmyhal clarified that Kiev expects to begin significant localized production of Swedish fighters from 2033, including the assembly of aircraft and the production of individual components. In addition, according to the Prime Minister, the details of future deliveries of 150 Gripen fighter jets for the needs of the Ukrainian Air Force (VVS) have already been agreed.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced on October 22 that Ukraine will be able to receive more than a hundred new Swedish Gripen E fighter jets in the future, which will help strengthen the country's air Force. In addition, Kristersson added that the modernization of the Ukrainian Air Force is designed for 10-15 years.

Later, on October 23, military expert, captain of the first rank of the reserve Vasily Dandykin noted that Sweden would not be able to pay for and supply Ukraine with 150 Jas 39 Gripen E fighters, as there were insufficient resources for this. The expert noted that Sweden will be able to transfer the first fighter to Kiev only after three years, when it will no longer be relevant.
