A deadly Panamanian wandering spider has been discovered in a box of bananas at an Orpington supermarket in Greater London. This was reported on November 6 by the Need To Know (NTK) publication with reference to the National Reptile Welfare Center (NCRW).

"Wandering spiders of the genus Phoneutria are considered to be one of the most dangerous spiders in the world. They are unlikely to threaten the life of a healthy adult, but the bite will be excruciatingly painful and will require hospitalization," said NCRW director Chris Newman.

According to the newspaper, the spider traveled more than 5,000 miles from Panama before it was discovered by supermarket employees during the night shift. This is the first confirmed case of a wandering spider in bananas in the 30-year practice of the center. After extraction, the arthropod was securely isolated and handed over to specialists.

On October 8, Science X magazine reported the discovery of a new spider species in Thailand. It was named Damarchus inazuma. The individual is distinguished by a rare case of sexual dimorphism — the right and left sides of the body have distinctive sexual characteristics.
