Onishchenko appreciated the proposal to reduce summer holidays
The proposal to shorten the summer holidays for schoolchildren requires in-depth analysis, including issues of teacher remuneration and possible consequences for primary schools. This was announced on November 6 by Gennady Onishchenko, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education.
"Of course, it is necessary to study this topic... Consider it in conjunction with the load. The most important thing is how to be a teacher: how do they pay for it?" he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Onishchenko, the main problem is that teachers' salaries are calculated by working days, not by the number of hours, although these hours are also taken into account.
In addition, the academician noted that many schools undergo renovation work in the summer, which also needs to be taken into account when making a decision.
He also expressed the opinion that such a measure should definitely not be extended to elementary school students.
"Because children at that age are in a very difficult period for them. It is necessary to study this issue from all sides," the agency's interlocutor summed up.
On November 3, Olga Yaroslavskaya, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in Moscow, proposed reducing the duration of summer holidays to two months. It was clarified that she took the initiative to make June an academic month, devoting it to creative disciplines — drawing, music, physical education.
