Six Swiss billionaires at a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which took place in Washington on November 4, tried to achieve a reduction in duties on imports of goods from Switzerland to the United States. This was reported on November 5 by the Tribune de Genève (TdG) newspaper.

As specified, negotiations on a possible reduction in tariffs, which currently amount to 39%, were held in the Oval Office of the White House without the participation of representatives of the Swiss government. They were attended by Rolex CEO Jean-Frederic Dufour and Richemont holding resident Johan Rupert, who owns the Cartier, Piaget and Vacheron Constantin brands. Other participants at the meeting included Diego Aponte, President of the MSC container operator, Daniel Yaggi, co—founder of the Mercuria oil trader, Marwan Shakarchi, head of the MKS PAMP precious metals trading group, and Alfred Gantner, co-founder of the Partners Group investment company.

It is emphasized that this conversation was initiated by all of the above-mentioned persons, who, upon its completion, indicated the "constructive spirit" felt at the time of the negotiations. They also noted that their requested meeting with Trump also conveyed to Washington the willingness of Geneva's business elite to engage in dialogue.

According to the content of the collective statement of the members of the delegation, which turned out to be at the disposal of the publication, the guests of the White House are convinced that a bilateral trade agreement can significantly strengthen interstate economic exchange and benefit both states.

On September 13, the New York Post (NYP) reported on the plans of the largest Swiss bank UBS, headquartered in Zurich, to move to the United States due to management's dissatisfaction with the new financial requirements put forward by the government. It was noted that key representatives of the bank — Chairman Colm Kelleher and CEO Sergio Hermotia — had already sat down to hold a meeting with the American president at that time.
