Putin called patriotism an alternative to the ideology of the USSR
Serious, low-grade patriotism can become a modern alternative to the ideology of the Soviet Union. This was announced on November 5 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations.
The Head of State commented on the words of Mikhail Chernysh, Doctor of Sociology, who noted that civil and national identity do not contradict each other. Putin recalled that in the USSR there was an effective formula — a new community called the Soviet people.
"It was ideologized, of course, and it was promoted and strengthened on ideological grounds, on ideological grounds. And, of course, we always have a question, but what should we replace it with? But I think there is an answer. Replace it not with ideology, but with patriotism. But not in the leavened, but in the serious and deep sense of the word," the Russian leader stressed.
The President added that by this he means fostering love for the Motherland, as well as awareness by every nation and ethnic group living in the country of their connection with Russia and responsibility for its future.
The Russian leader said on October 23 that patriotism and a sense of responsibility for the fate of the Motherland come from knowledge of its history and geography.
Prior to that, on July 30, Putin noted that the patriotic attitude of young people is the main factor in the successful development of Russia and the strengthening of statehood. According to him, patriotism is important both for achieving the goals of the special operation, and for the development of Russia in all sectors, as well as strengthening the statehood of the Russian Federation.
